The survey department has prepared some respective records and handed them over to Revenue Department. RRR maintenance is the process of making changes and day-to-day activities of changes of land based on which they are constantly updated.
For keeping with the daily Records, in keeping revenue records up-to-date the following should always be considered.
- Survey marks
- Field measurement book
- Village map
- Settlement register
The above 4 records mentioned above are interdependent. It should be noted that the absence of any of these is no use to the rest. As time passes the survey marks/stones may be removed/displaced, settled in the ground, stone around mounds, bushes therefore the stones may miss out. Sometimes the maintenance of survey stone is not done properly therefore the stones may be mismatched or replaced there by the survey records are diminished.
The missing stones may be planted by the village revenue assistant and village officials must properly check the boundaries from time to time and give the report to appellant authorities.

Toggle1. Survey Marks:
It means any mark or object erected, made, employed, or found by the Survey Officer to indicate the level of any point or points and to assist in identifying or identifying them.
2. FMB:
It relates to the survey fields and subdivisions recorded in Register A, containing plotted sketches of the individual field showing the boundary of each landholding. It helps to inquire detect land encroachments, measure new S.Ds, etc. This F.M.B also allows them to know at a glance whether there is a clear encroachment on the land of Poramboke or to know the cultivation of each revenue section. The Survey Department will make (3) three copies and store the original (‘O’ FMB) copy in the Central Survey Office. The second copy will be sent to the taluka office and the third copy to the karanam.
In F.M.B the “F” lines are drawn thick, subdivision boundaries thin and “G” lines are drawn as thinnest and broken. All the topo details are exhibited with blue ink, whereas offset. Nos are indicated in red ink. Offset lines are not shown in the sketch. All the cutting points and offset distances are noted in the ladder. On top of the sketch, the name of the Village, Mandal District, Survey Number, and its area is recorded. At the bottom, the scale in which a field is plotted is indicated.
3. Village Map:
It acts mainly as an index to the field measurement book and shows the relative position of the survey field. Topographical details are inserted in the village map and this information makes it very valuable in the identification of fields by all Inspecting officers. Once the Particular field is identified, the individual field map is referred to for all other particulars required. The village map is drawn to a scale of 16″ to the mile (1 mm. = 5000 mm.) and does not show sub-division boundaries, under the metric system the village maps are drawn to scale 1 mm = 5000 mm.
4. Settlement Register:
The permanent village register or the “A” Register, is the authoritative record for settlement and revenue particulars of every field and sub-division in the village. It gives the tenure, Government or inam, dry, wet, unassessed or poramboke, source of irrigation, class, and sort of soil taram, rate per acre (Hectare) extent, and assessment of each field and sub-division, Reference to these records are necessary to ascertain the assessment on individual holdings to dispose of cases of transfer of lands from one head to another.
