The following principles shall be followed in the field survey demarcation of footpaths and cart tracks.
Footpaths:
- Footpaths are vital for accessing fields and are used by farmers, laborers, and cattle.
- Width Limit: Footpaths have a maximum width of 4 feet (1.21 meters).
- Between Two Fields: When a footpath lies between two fields, each owner is responsible for leaving 2 feet width.
- Within a Single Field: If a footpath runs entirely within a single field, the owner must allow the full 4 feet width.
Cart Tracks:
- Width Limit: Cart tracks can extend up to a maximum width of 10 feet (3.04 meters).
- Differentiation: Clearly distinguish cart tracks from footpaths in survey records.
- Within a Single Field: If a cart track is entirely within a field, the owner should reserve the entire 10 feet width.
- Between Fields: If a cart track passes through fields owned by different individuals, each owner must provide 5 feet width (1.5 meters) for the cart track.
Survey Records Guidelines:
- Differentiate Clearly: Survey records should distinctly note whether a path is a footpath or a cart track.
- Width Specifications: If old documents lack width details, default to 4 feet for footpaths and 10 feet for cart tracks during surveying.
- Standard Measurements: The prescribed widths (4 feet for footpaths, 10 feet for cart tracks) are the established norms for demarcation and measurements during field surveys.
