Prepare for written and practical work together
A promotion test for experienced survey staff should be prepared as applied work, not as isolated definitions. For each question, connect the rule or concept to the record you would inspect, the field action you would take, and the office entry or sketch you would produce.
- For procedure questions: write the sequence, responsible officer, notices or signatures, records, and final verification.
- For calculations: state the units, formula, substitutions, check, and final rounded value.
- For sketches: use a title, north or reference direction where relevant, scale or “not to scale,” clear labels, and a short legend.
- For practical revision: rehearse instrument setup, field-book entries, boundary evidence, area checks, and transfer of measurements to the required record.
