The Andhra Pradesh Survey and Boundaries Act, 1923 is part of the legal framework used for surveys, boundary records and related proceedings. This page is a field-oriented overview, not an authenticated transcription of the Act or legal advice.
What the Act covers in practice
- Government direction and notice for a survey.
- Field measurement, boundary identification and survey marks.
- Recording boundaries where no dispute is raised and proceedings where a dispute is raised.
- Notice, record publication and the routes available after a survey decision.
- Responsibilities connected with survey marks and assistance with the survey.
Safe field workflow
- Work from the current order, notification and approved field records for the village.
- Give notice and record service in the manner required for the particular proceeding.
- Measure from reliable reference marks, show observations and offsets, and preserve the original field notes.
- Record an undisputed boundary only where the record and field position support it.
- For a disputed boundary, record the competing material and refer the matter through the prescribed process. Do not decide title or create an unsupported boundary in the field book.
- Check the current Act, rules and notice for the applicable deadline, form and authority. They should not be copied from an old blog post.
Source and current instructions
Use the official notification, Gazette and instructions issued for the work as the controlling source. The Government of Andhra Pradesh Survey & Land Records information page identifies the Act among the department’s governing material. For a working copy of the statute, verify every cited provision against an authoritative current source before relying on it.
Important limit
Boundary survey and boundary-title disputes are different questions. A surveyor should document observations, records and process; ownership, compensation and legal remedies must be handled by the competent authority or court.
